This short course is designed as a basic introduction, to help those new to mentoring understand what to expect from their mentor and the process. We provide an overview of how mentoring works, the sort of things you can expect during sessions, and what is expected of you in return. What’s more, you can use the included workbook to take notes on the key points.
What does being a good mentee mean?
Becoming a mentee is a powerful step to take, providing you with opportunity to discover a whole new set of opportunities. Mentorship involvement has been shown to have a profoundly positive impact on those involved, such as within professional settings where studies reported that (at every income level) more people who have a mentor say that they are satisfied with their job than those who don’t.
Even so, when you are considering taking part in a mentorship programme, whether in a personal or professional setting, it can be a little daunting at first. Mentoring is a shared experience, meaning that it is important for you to approach the process in the best mindset possible. Being prepared to be open, ready to grow and learn, will greatly enhance your experience and outcomes.
Just as mentors need training in order to fully understand their role and responsibilities, so too can mentees benefit from a proper introduction and preparation for their involvement.
